The Georgeous Premlin |
1. When
did you start designing?
Forever!! I remember
making outfits for my dolls when I was little. But I'd say I've done this seriously for the past 5 years. And
last year I launched my own label Prelim.
2. You seem to be a fan of the African touch
...feel us in on that.
My current influence in
my collection is the Afro beats music influence, the fusion of African culture
and western street culture and exploring it in fashion. As musician Fuse Odg
said " this is new Africa"
people are proud of their African heritage and western roots. What I aimed for
with my clothing line was that it would be able to mix and match with items
already in their wardrobe.
3. Which is the most complicated fabric to use
when designing?
Has to be chiffon or
leather because the sewing machine struggles to sew it.
4. what sort of clients are you targeting?
Women from all ages
that love African culture and want to express it in a modern way
5. What is the public’s response to your
designs so far?
I have had a
phenomenal response with my Face book page reaching 3000 likes and featuring in
AfroElle magazine and great feedback
from clients and followers. It’s totally amazing!
6. What do you think of the African fashion
industry at the moment?
It's booming!! Major
fashion houses are starting to be influenced by African fashion. It's adapting
to modern silhouettes but keeping that African touch. It's an exciting time for
African fashion
7. Are working on any special projects?
Yes I am I'm working
on an athletic line with varsity jackets and caps.
8. Fill us in on premlin’s future plans
fashion wise.
Prelim is going to be
part of Africa at spitalfields in London on the 19th of May. I'm excited to be showcasing in African London
Fashion Week. Hoping to have more stock lists selling my clothing.
